Types of Mobile Crane

 

There are different types of cranes in market and every crane has a different specification which suits for specific job. So as a construction manager, we should know all types of mobile crane in order to select perfect one for our task. These are the main cranes that are available in market although there are some other types of crane such as Pick and carry craneCarry deck crane and Telescopic handler crane

Truck-mounted crane

A mounted crane is the most popular type of mobile crane. They provides the mobility. Generally, this type of crane are able to travel on highways. There is no need for special equipment to transport the crane. It is able to move from site to site quickly. Also, it can be set up and work within minutes of entering a site. It is extremely trouble free with low maintenance cost. Excellent lifting capacities combined with fully Hydraulic and user friendly safe load indicators make it ideal for crane hire. Five outrigger jacks give it the ability to lift loads from a full 360 degree Radius. 

Sidelift crane

A sidelifter crane is a road-going truck or semi-trailer. This crane is able to hoist and transport ISO standard containers. Container lift is done with parallel crane-like hoists, which can lift a container from the ground or from a railway vehicle.

Rough terrain crane

They have all the features of Truck Mounted Cranes, also they have the following extra features such as 4 Wheel Drive, 4 Wheel Steer and Crab Steer Facilities, Pick and Carry load Facility, Compact and rugged for rough site and they are ideal for Confined Working Conditions. 

Crawler crane

Crawler crane is most popular for Civil Engineering, Bridge construction and Dockside application. Once it was set up, it can move freely unlike all the mobile cranes which cannot move in different places especially windy places and need several set ups. They are user friendly and they can set up quickly. They have strong lifting capacities. In addition, a crawler crane is capable of traveling with a load. Negative point about crawler crane is that hey are very heavy, and cannot easily be moved from one job site to another without significant expense. Vrawler crane has to disassembled and then move it to other place.

Floating crane

Floating Crane are usually used in port construction and building the bridge. But, they are also used for loading and unloading of heavy loads on and off the ships. They are mounted either on a pontoon or barges.

Aerial crane

Aerial crane are usually helicopters which are designed for lifting large and heavy materials which are located in unreachable areas. They are used to lift materials and loads to high-rises. They are lighter than aircrafts and normal helicopters. 

Railroad Crane

A railroad crane has flanged wheels for use on railroads. The simplest form is a crane mounted on a railroad car. More capable devices are purpose-built. Different types of crane are used for maintenance work, recovery operations and freight loading in goods yards

All terrain crane

In All terrain crane, they combine the readability of Truck-mounted Cranes and also maneuverability of Rough Terrain Cranes. They are Gaining in popularity over the past few Years, ALL-TERRAIN Cranes are most popular in the 50 Ton plus Category.
